VYHA Registration

Walk up registration sessions for 2009-10 season have been completed.  However players may still register for this season through December 20, 2009 using the instructions provided on this page.  It is important to note that players will not be allowed on the ice without ALL of the completed forms, including USA Hockey registration, and their registration fee having been received by a team manager or the league registrar.

Step 1: Determine your participation level.

For returning players, or those new to the area, but who have played hockey elsewhere, you will most likely desire to play in the Mite, Squirt, Pee Wee, Bantam, or Midget classification. This year VYHA will have both house and travel teams in these classifications. The cost for league dues will be $450 for the season, and can be paid in monthly installments with the first installment of $100 due with your registration packet. This cost does not include equipment. Players are expected to furnish their own equipment with the exception of game jerseys which are provided for players use during the season and then collected at the end of the season. There are presently no provisions for players to purchase their own game jerseys. Tryouts for travel teams will be held around the end of October. Travel team costs will be higher and will be provided by team managers once the season gets going.

For players aged 5-18 who are new to the sport, VYHA offers a Learn To Play program. For $125, players will receive 8 on-ice instruction sessions to the basic aspects of playing the sport. This fee must be paid with your registration packet. Upon completion of these sessions, those who wish may enter the house program for game-level experience. Players may provide their own equipment, or they may rent their equipment from VYHA for the season at a cost of $125. Equipment fitting sessions for Learn To Play will occur prior to the first practice session. All Learn To Play participants will receive a Valley Youth Hockey game jersey for use during the season that they may keep after the season is complete.

Step 2: Register with USA Hockey

All players, regardless of classification, must be registered with USA Hockey. Click Here for the USA Hockey Online registration web site. Follow the instructions and make sure to print out a copy of the confirmation receipt that will be mailed with your registration packet. Print out a second copy if you desire to keep a receipt for yourself. The cost for registering with USA Hockey is $35 and is in addition to the VYHA league dues described in the previous section.

Step 3: Download, Print, and Complete the following forms:

Step 4: Mail your registration packet

Your registration packet will consist of the following items:
  • USA Hockey registration conformation page (from step 2)
  • Completed Consent to Treat Form (from step 3)
  • Completed Code of Conduct form (from step 3)
  • Completed Zero Tolerance form (from step 3)
  • A note indicating whether you are Learn to Play or Returning Player (USAH will determine classification based on age)
  • If you are new to the program, a copy of the player's birth certificate
  • A check for $100 made payable to VYHA

Mail this packet to the following address:

Once your registration packet has been processed, you will be contacted by phone or e-mail by your team manager to coordinate the necessary logistics.

You may also bring the completed registration packet in person to the next practice for your player's team and and provide directly to the team manager.  See the Calendar for a listing of practices by age classification.

If you have any questions about the mail-in registration process, please do not hesitate to ask. Send an e-mail to hockey@vyhroanoke.com and we will respond to your query as quickly as possible.
