The Potomac Valley Amateur Hockey Association has awarded a $3000 grant to the Valley Youth Hockey Association to help offset expenses related to implementation of USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM), while growing the game of hockey within the VYHA’s service area.
The purpose of the John Crerar Hockey Development Grant Program is to assist member associations within PVAHA to increase participation and promote hockey development within Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Nonprofit member associations within the Potomac Valley Amateur Association were eligible to apply for affiliate grants. Applying associations were asked to come up with ideas to grow the sport at the local level and to explain how financial assistance from PVAHA would support their efforts.
The PVAHA Grant Committee deemed the VYHA grant proposal worthy of support based on its plans to meet the following criteria:
• growing participation in recreational ice hockey in their area
• bringing new players age 8 and under into the sport
• promoting the growth of Disabled Hockey within the Affiliate
• promoting the use of cross ice at our lower levels of play
• promote the growth and development of girls hockey within the Affiliate
• promoting Diversity Hockey within the Affiliate
• promote the USA Hockey American Development Model
The winning grant proposal authored by the Board of Directors of the VYHA is designed to help the Association more fully implement USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM) throughout the younger age levels of the organization.
The award from the Crerar Grant will be used to purchase cross-ice dividers and smaller cross-ice nets that will be used extensively with the Learn to Play, Mite and Squirt level teams within Valley Youth Hockey.
